The Program

The Law School at The University of Adelaide and the Faculty of Law at the University of Mannheim jointly offer a Master of Comparative Law. Students spend up to one semester at Adelaide and one semester at Mannheim and undertake a dissertation at their home institution.

The program enables students to study the different systems of law throughout the world such as common law, civil law and Islamic law. It also enables Australian students to obtain a more detailed understanding of the legal framework in the European Union. It will be conducted entirely in English but some Australian students proficient in German may choose to study in that language in Germany.

The program is of 15 months full-time or equivalent duration. Tuition Fees are payable only at the student's home institution, with no further fees levied at the host institution.

Admission requirements for Adelaide students shall be LLB (Hons), or an above average LLB, or LLB with substantial professional experience or other relevant qualifications.

The program of study shall be comprised of 30 units.

Students Academic Progress Review:

The School may prescribe rules for review of academic progress. Any student who meets the requirements for review will be asked to show cause as to why they should be permitted to continue their studies. Students who cannot adequately explain poor academic performance may have their enrolment cancelled or restricted, and/or be precluded from undertaking further studies toward their program.
