The Hon Mr Greg Crafter had a distinguished career as a
member of Parliament and Minister of the South Australian government. He was
first elected to Parliament in 1979 and served as the Member for Norwood until
1993. He was Minister of Community Welfare from November 1982 to December 1985,
Minister of Education and Minister of Children's Services from 1985 to 1992,
Minister of Aboriginal Affairs from November 1982 to September 1988, and held
the portfolios of Housing, Urban Development, Local Government Relations and
Recreation and Sport from October 1992 to December 1993. He is currently
working as a consultant to Johnston Withers, Barristers and Solicitors.
Other current positions include Director, Foundation for
Young Australians (since 1997) and chairman, SA Regional Committee (since
1995); President, Council of Foundation, International Baccalaureate
Organisation, Geneva; Member of the Passenger Transport Board; Member, St
Ignatius College Council; Member of the University of Adelaide Council; Chair
Alumni Association, University of Adelaide and Chair, Don Dunstan Foundation.
He received the 2001 Australian University Alumni Council Distinguished Service
Award, which recognises professionals and honorary officers who have made a
significant contribution to the advancement of Alumni status, recognition and
involvement within Australian Universities. Mr Crafter graduated from the
University of Adelaide with an LLB in 1978."
