Moys Classification Scheme for Law Books

The law book collection of the Law Library is arranged and classifed by a classification scheme, peculiar to legal materials, known as the Moys Classification Scheme for Legal Materials. The scheme adopts an alpha-numeric system (similar to the LC Classification system), with the K representing legal materials, as originally adopted from the LC scheme.

It is only the book collection that is classified by this scheme, not the journals, law reports and legislation which are arranged by stack location. The following table provides a simple framework to the main elements of the Moys classification scheme. Copies of this outline are displayed on the book stacks, and there is a copy in the Law Library Guide.
