Journals

Researching the legal journal literature can be done in two different ways: by looking at journal index databases which offer the advantage of covering a wide range of journals with abstracts and some subject analysis which makes it easier to search for articles by topic; or secondly, there are an increasing number of law journals available full-text online, which may be searched, perhaps for similar terms, facts, quotes, etc.

Indexes to the Journal Literature

Law journal indexes contain information on articles published in a range of journals. This information usually contains some subject analysis which makes law journal indexes an excellent way to search for articles by topic.

Australian Law Journals
AGIS Plus Text	Attorney-General's Information Service via the Informit platform. Other relevant legal databases on Informit include CINCH (Criminology) and AFPD (Police).
LexisNexis AU	Citations to journal articles are given, with links to full text for those journals listed under My Sources. The article citations also feature case citations of cases discussed within the article, with links to the CaseBase digest record for the cases.
Foreign Law Journals
Index to Legal Periodicals	This is an excellent resource for US articles and it also provides references to key Australian and English articles.
Index to Legal Periodicals Retrospective 1918-1981	An index of older articles covering the years 1918 to 1981, on the WilsonWeb platform. Links from the index to the full-text journal article are available where we have online full-text access.
Legal Journals Index	An index to UK and European legal journal articles, available via Westlaw. Legal Journals Index also links to the full-text article where that journal is available on Westlaw.
Legal Resource Index (aka LegalTrac)	A legal index which is the online equivalent of Current Law Index, it provides coverage of over 700 US, UK, Canadian and Australian law journals
Google Scholar	Google Scholar enables you to search the scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books and technical reports from all areas of research, not just law. It also allows University of Adelaide users to search across databases to which University of Adelaide staff and students have access through Library subscription.
Mutlidisciplinary Journal Indexes
Academic OneFile	A database of articles from over 8,000 journals from the physical and life sciences and social science. Some full-text or links to full-text options where available on other platforms.
Web of Science	The largest online index and citation database covering the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.

Journals – Full-Text Online

Full-text journals online enables the searcher to retrieve, read and print full-text articles. They offer a different way to search from journal indexes, which is less topic or subject focussed. Instead they offer the ability to search for facts, circumstances, quotes or concepts.

Australian Journals full-text
Journals on Legal Online (formerly LawBook online)	21 Thomson law journals are available on this platform, with full-text available from 2001.
Australian journals on LexisNexis AU	Includes a selection of the Australian law journals published by LexisNexis Butterworths, including Australian Bar Review; Australian Journal of Labour Law; and Torts Law Journal. Articles are available in PDF format, so pagination is included. Other LexisNexis Australian law journals can be found on the broader database LexisNexis , where you navigate to Find Laws by Country or Region > Australia > Journals . Pagination is not included in results found here.
AustLII journals	A range of freely available Australian law journals. However, generally the most recent years are not available.
Foreign Journals full-text
Hein Online	Hein Online is a full-text database of law journals from vol.1 of each title. It covers mainly US titles but an increasing number of international and Australian titles and includes, Yale law journal, Australian yearbook of international law, Cambridge law journal, Green Bag, and the* Law quarterly review*
Kluwer Law International	Kluwer law journals online provides online fulltext access to Kluwer journals. You can browse the titles or click on Advanced Search (top right of screen) for keyword search options.
LexisNexis Journals	From the LexisNexis homepage, select Secondary Legal / Law Reviews & Journals
Oxford Journals Online	The Library has online access to all the academic journals published by Oxford University Press. These journals may be browsed by title, volume and issue; or searched by keyword. The journals are grouped by category, so it is easy to view all law journals available in this package.
World Journals on Westlaw	Select the World Journals tab to search within this database library, or select an individual journal by searching by journal title in the Search these databases box.
