The Recognition of Access to Energy Services as an Integral Component of the Human Rights and Sustainable Development FrameworkDr Judith Gardam and Professor Adrian BradbrookThe project is inter-disciplinary in nature and combines the international law expertise of Dr Gardam with that of Professor Bradbrook, a world expert in energy law. Energy is integral to overcoming poverty and achieving sustainable development. Almost two billion people worldwide lack access to modern energy services and the modern lifestyle thereby provided. The project will examine the hitherto neglected issue of the relationship between access to energy services, sustainable development and human rights. The outcome of the project will be a nonbinding soft international legal document that will explicitly recognize the integral role that the access to energy services plays in the realisation of human rights and the right to sustainable development and serve as a precedent for progress on this issue.
