The Honours Degree of Bachelor of Laws (Honours Dissertation) - 'old' curriculum - Final year offered 2010

Information for students wishing to apply for the Honours Dissertation and who wish to apply to graduate under the old curriculum/program rules:

The award abbreviation Hons. LLB is used by candidates awarded the Honours Degree of Bachelor of Laws.

The Honours degree of Bachelor of Laws is available in the first, second (IIA and IIB) and third class.
Honours candidates must undertake the Honours Dissertation for which a quota applies. This quota varies from year-to-year according to the availability of supervisors. In recent years, approximately 25 students have been accepted to the program on an annual basis.

A student who wishes to obtain an Honours degree of Bachelor of Laws must complete the courses LAW 3089 *Honours Research and Writing (3 units) and LAW 3099 Dissertation Honours Law (6 units). These courses are normally undertaken in the second semester of the penultimate year and the first semester of the final year of the LLB. program respectively. They are taken in lieu of other elective courses with an equivalent units value and these courses cannot be studied concurrently.

Calculating an Honours course average under the old curriculum program

Applicants are selected according to academic merit demonstrated by their honours course average which is calculated according to the Honours degree Specific Academic Program Rules. An honours course average for this purpose is the average mark obtained in the best 48 units of whatever Law courses a candidate has completed to at least pass level, provided the student has completed Law courses under with an aggregate units value of at least 62.
