How to Find Us

Exchange Program

Information Session
The Law School and the International Programs Office jointly offer an informal information session in semester 1 each year which provides interested students with an opportunity to meet current overseas exchange students and Adelaide students who have returned from a period of exchange study. Academic and administrative staff will also be available to answer questions. Details will be posted on the Law School notice boards early in Semester 1 each year.

Planning ahead
Students intending to participate in an exchange program must expect to take longer than the minimum time to complete the requirements for their law degree at Adelaide. Status will be granted in unspecified elective subjects to a maximum value of 12 units only.

Study Guide Double Degree

Study Guide Single LLB

Suggested schemes of study for intending exchange students will vary as a number of unique circumstances will apply to each applicant. Students are strongly advised to consult the Student Adviser as early as possible in their law studies if they are contemplating taking law studies as an exchange student.

Application Procedures
Applicants can collect and lodge an application form with the Adelaide Abroad Office.  Once the selection process will be completed applicants will be notified by mail. Acceptance of an offer must be made, in writing, within a week of your offer being received.

Selection
Selection will be based on academic merit together with an interview conducted by the Law School. Final selection is at the discretion of the Exchange University.

Study Program
If accepted you should delay determining and submitting details of your proposed program of study until approximately 2 months before departure. This will avoid unnecessary assessment of courses.
Students must be enrolled at the Exchange University on a full time basis, in sufficient law subjects to comply with the status requirements below. Each student's program of study must be approved by the Law School prior to departure in order to determine its suitability.  Full details of the subjects available for study at the Exchange University can be obtained from the individual University websites.

Enrolment at Adelaide
You must enrol at The University of Adelaide during your time at the Exchange University. You will continue to be liable for HECS and Adelaide Student Union fees during this period.

Enrolment at the Exchange University
You will also be required to enrol at the Exchange University as a Non-award/non-degree student and you will not have any claim to an award from the Exchange University.

Financial Arrangements
While tuition fees are waived, all other costs are the responsibility of the exchange student. If you are eligible for AUSTUDY in Australia you are still eligible to receive such payments while on exchange. Further details are available through AUSTUDY.

Scholarship Opportunity
The JJ Bray Scholarship is available to assist and encourage law students wishing to experience international law studies. Applicants must be accepted for one or two semesters to one of the University of Adelaide’s official exchange programs. The value of the scholarship is approximately $3,000. Please see the Scholarships website for further details regarding this scholarship.

Status
Subject to satisfactory completion of the approved study program, and on presentation of an official record from the Exchange University indicating such, students will be granted status in unspecified elective subjects up to a maximum value of 12 units towards their Bachelor of Laws at Adelaide.

Successful applicants
Successful applicants who have also applied for selection under various University-wide exchange programs will need to decide whether to accept their offer in Law and withdraw their other application(s). It is not possible to delay acceptance of an offer under the Law exchange program pending the outcome of a University-wide exchange application which may not be determined until much later in the year. If you decline an offer made under the Law exchange program, in the expectation of gaining a place under a University-wide exchange application, you cannot take up the former if you are unsuccessful in the latter.
